Itineraries
Day 1
Evening Departure from Logan Airport
Evening departure from Logan Airport to Flores via Ponta Delgada aboard Azores Airlines. Complimentary meal served on board with beverages.
Day 2
Arrival to the Island of Flores
Welcome to the Island of Flores, where unspoiled nature and stunning waterfalls will greet you at every turn. Enjoy the day at leisure in the town of Santa Cruz das Flores. In the evening we will meet for a welcome dinner.
Day 3
Full Day Flores Island Tour
Today your journey takes you northeast where you will soak in stunning views of the neighboring island of Corvo. Shortly after a stop at the Caimbros viewpoint to witness the bird migration on the islet da Alagoa. You will make your way to the town of Ponta Delgada where locals still live the pastoral lifestyle. The journey continues to the Albarnaz lighthouse to view the Ilheu do Monchique, Europe's westernmost point, before returning to Santa Cruz for lunch. The afternoon will surround you with views of lakes, mountains, and waterfalls. You will have the opportunity to view the breathtaking Rocha dos Bordões, a geological treasure with approximately 570,000 years of history and perfect columns of about 20 meters. The day will end with a visit to the Nossa Senhora do Rosario Church and the town of Lajes.
Day 4
Full Day Corvo Island Tour
Today’s journey takes you on a short boat ride to the neighboring Island of Corvo, the smallest of the 9 islands. Enjoy the stunning views of caves, faults, and cascading waterfalls along the shoreline of Flores before crossing over to the island of Corvo. Upon arrival in Vila do Corvo we head to the Monte Gordo “Caldeirão”, an enormous caldera with an unusual topography. We return to Vila do Corvo for lunch and enjoy the remaining day exploring the town and its windmills before returning to the island of Flores. This tour operates weather permitting.
Day 5
Arrival to Faial Island
Today make your way to the Island of Faial, known as the “blue island” for the hydrangeas that decorate the landscape of the island. Upon arrival you will be transferred to the hotel.
Day 6
Full Day Faial Island Tour
This morning’s journey Start the tour with a visit to the “Caldeira”, a volcanic caldera 400meters deep and 2 kilometers wide, one of the biggest attractions on the island End the day exploring Capelinhos Volcano, where you can still witness the effects of the eruption of 1957/58. Take the opportunity to stop by the interpretation center where you will learn about the social and economic consequences of that eruption.
Day 7
Full Day Pico Island Tour
This morning you will enjoy a scenic 30-minute ferry ride to the island of Pico. Towering over the island at 7713 ft. Montanha do Pico is Portugal’s highest mountain and at its base you will witness the basaltic landscapes where the vines grow intertwined with the volcanic rocks.
Enjoy a leisurely stroll through the vineyards of Criação Velha, classified as World Heritage by Uncesco, before visiting the Arcos do Cachorro (Dogs Arches) for some breathtaking views of the erosive influence of the ocean waves.
Lunch will be served in a local restaurant.
Day 8
Full Day Sao Jorge Island Tour
Today’s journey will have you embark on a ferry ride to the Island of São Jorge. The island is known for its rugged landscape and volcanic landscape, known as Fajãs. You will have the opportunity to visit these small volcanic peninsulas and admire the beauty that surrounds them. Enjoy a tasting of locally grown coffee from the Fajã do Ouvidor, the only place in the country where coffee is produced. The Island of São Jorge is also known for the production of the renowned S.Jorge cheese, a hard spicy cheese made with raw cow milk. Enjoy a visit to one of the factories and learn about the process of production.
Day 9
Terceira Island
Today you will make your way back to the airport for a quick flight to the island of Terceira. Upon arrival you will be greeted and transferred to the hotel. The rest of the day will be at leisure to explore the historical center of Angra do Heroísmo, designated a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1983.
Day 10
Full Day Terceira Island Tour
Today's journey will take you on a full-day tour of Terceira, also known as the Lilac Island. You will have the opportunity to visit some emblematic historical sites, including charming towns with rich heritage. Admire the breathtaking views from Serra do Cume, a viewpoint offering sweeping vistas of the island’s patchwork fields. Explore the Biscoitos area, famous for its natural lava rock pools and wine culture. Conclude the tour with a visit to a local vineyard for a delightful tasting of Terceira's unique wines.
Day 11
Full Day Graciosa Island Tour
Today we embark on a full day tour to explore the island of Graciosa. We head to Monte Nossa Senhora da Ajuda that has breath-taking views of the surrounding countryside. On our travels around the island, we stop to see windmills and the Farol da Ponta da Barca. Here, there are views of volcanic formations in the shape of a whale, (Ilheus). Afterwards we drive to the unique geological formation of Caldeira and Furna de Enxofre, (Sulphur Cavern). While we
circle the island, we stop at various scenic areas to view the different points of the island as well as to have lunch. We return to Terceira in the end of the day.
Day 12
São Miguel Island
Today you will make your way back to the airport for a quick flight to the island of São Miguel. Upon arrival you will be greeted and transferred to the hotel. The rest of the day will be at leisure to explore the historical center of Ponta Delgada.
Day 13
Full Day Sete Cidades Tour, São Miguel Island
Today you will explore the western part of the island, stopping first at the pineapple plantations to observe how this tropical fruit grows on these islands in the middle of the Atlantic. Take the opportunity to indulge in a pineapple liqueur tasting.
On the way to Sete Cidades, a village known for its tales and beauty you will have the opportunity to take in the breathtaking view of the main lake, also known as, Blue and Green Lakes with a stop at Vista do Rei (Kings view).
You will enjoy lunch at a traditional restaurant.
In the afternoon we explore the central part of the island of São Miguel, mostly known for its volcano which harbors Lagoa do Fogo, one of the most beautiful lakes on the island.
Day 14
Full Day Santa Maria Island Tour
You will depart to Santa Maria, with your first stop in Anjos, the location of Christopher Columbus's first landfall on his return from America. Explore the historical Church of São Pedro and the Church of Santa Barbara before heading to São Lourenço for a bird’s-eye view of the bay and its cliffside vineyards. Visit the charming village of Santo Espírito, where you can explore the Ethnographic Museum and the XVI-century church, believed to be the site of the first Mass celebrated in the Azores. In the evening, return to São Miguel.
Day 15
Full Day Furnas Tour, São Miguel Island
Today’s journey begins in the beautiful seaside town of Vila Franca do Campo, the island’s governmental town in the XV century. Enjoy a taste of the famous Queijadas da Vila, a traditional pastry developed by nuns during the XVI century, before making your way to Furnas Lake. Here you will witness a traditional Cozido das Furnas (a meal cooked in sealed pots using the island’s hot springs known as fumarolas) and have the chance to indulge in the famous cozido dish at a local restaurant.
After lunch, visit Ribeira dos Caldeirões, a stunning natural park featuring waterfalls, watermills, and lush greenery, where you can enjoy the serene beauty of the island's landscapes. The day will end with a visit to the Gorreana Tea Factory, where you will learn about the island’s tea industry, still operated by 19th-century machinery, and enjoy a tasting of its famous green and black tea.
Day 16
Ponta Delgada, São Miguel Island
The day is at your leisure. You have the option of taking a half-day hiking/walking tour or even a whale watching tour from your hotel. Check out our add on activities and tours for more information.
Day 17
Departure
Our final morning in the Azores will be at leisure, before making your way to the airport for the return flight home.
