FULL DAY TERCEIRA HIGHLIGHTS
Depart from your hotel towards Monte Brasil, stop at Pico das Cruzinhas viewpoint, on the top of Monte Brasil, which offers the most beautiful view over the city. Continuing the tour you will make stops in Serretinha, Porto Judeu, Salga, Porto Martins for the natural pools and São Sebastião to see the parish Gothic styled Church, which is one of the oldest of the Azores. For lunch, enjoy a delicious meal served in a local restaurant. After lunch, continue through the inner roads passing by Serra do Cume, which offers beautiful sight over the “patchwork quilt” and the ocean. We will then pass by the island birthplace and biggest volcano crater where the wild Bulls live. Visit Biscoitos and it’s incredible natural pools formed by lava and cross the island to the south coast passing through the cheese factory/ice cream factory.
HALF DAY CITY TOUR AT ANGRA DO HEROÍSMO WORLD HERITAGE TOWN BY UNESCO
Walking tour of Angra on Terceira, recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. This small town was the Capital of the whole of Portugal for two times and the capital of the Azores for almost one century. You’ll pass by key city sites like the 16th century Baroque-era São Goncalo Convent, the 17th century Palace Bettencourt, and the Se Cathedral of the Azores. Be sure to check out the marina, where you can trace with your eyes the old stone bridge that leads offshore to the stunning 16th century São Joao Batista Fortress, confidently perched atop a rocky promontory. Stop at a local pastry shop to try our famous Dona Amélia cakes and have something to drink. Visit our Captains Palace and also the island Garden.
HALF DAY CAVE TOUR
Depart from your hotel to the Island birthplace and the Azores biggest single volcano crater to get to know about the island typical Street Bullfights while exploring the ranches around and the imponent bulls all over the crater.
Visit Algar do Carvão, the only volcano chimney in the whole world you can see from the inside and the island “ex libris” famous for also being a Natural Monument. We then go to the hot springs so we can watch the steam come up from one of the island active volcanoes and see the incredible native vegetation planted around. Our next stop will be the beautiful Gruta do Natal cave, a lava tube you can explore from the inside making it easy to really understand how volcanoes are formed.
FULL DAY TERCEIRA WEST COAST + TRAIL
This tour combines hiking and sightseeing in one day making it a complete adventure! It’s also the perfect match to our Terceira Highlights Tour since it explores the west coast of the island.
We first start the day by doing some hiking with the following options:
- Mistérios Negros – Medium/Hard Difficulty – The island last eruption with a mix of volcanoes, forest and sightseeing (3H)
- Agualva Bays – Medium/Easy Difficulty – The island north coast bays with a mix of ocean, nature and sightseeing (2H30)
After the trail we’ll enjoy an amazing lunch with local food followed by some visits to our West coast and it’s incredible viewpoints and a stop at our cheese factory to some cheese tasting!
